The concept of blackness has been altered to represent something dark and sinister. In movies villains are often draped in black. The idea of death is often displayed in darkness, while birth is light. Purity is white, while something “tainted” is black or dark. The raven is often seen as only a symbol of death or a negative omen, despite many tribal cultures seeing them as symbols of fertility, affection, healing powers, longevity, pranksters, and intelligence. Known to show empathy for others, hunt with  strategy and not simply “scavengers” as they are depicted, the Raven is an example of life, grace, and beauty.
